Style Spotlight: Clarissa Forde

Meet Clarissa Forde, an up-and-coming stylist and blogger of The Mixed Mannequin.
I came across Forde's profile via Instagram and instantly grew a liking for her brand. At a young age, she has managed to make a name for herself in this industry one opportunity at a time. So as she takes on the fashion world in New York City, I thought it would be a great idea to catch up with The Mixed Mannequin blogger and find out how she got started.

Tell me about your story. What inspired you to become a stylist?
One day I posted a status on Facebook about the way my imagination goes crazy on public transportation. Whenever I'm on the train or bus I would imagine these strangers swapping shoes and other articles of clothing with each other. Somebody commented on that status and told me I should get into styling. I never thought about styling before that. I just thought I was a fashionista with a big imagination.

Walk me through the first shoot you styled. What was it like?
The first shoot I styled was an interesting one. It was an Olympic themed shoot so I had one of my models running in heels and the other  posing on a baseball field. They wore red, white, blue and gold. I never posted any of the pics because I didn't like how the pictures were edited but it will always be my favorite shoot.

How would you define your personal style?
I would describe my style as tomboy chic. I honestly thought that I made that term up but I started seeing it everywhere shortly after.

When and why did you start your blog?
I started TheMixedMannequin.com in 2013 but I've been using my Tumblr since 2009. I started posting my own personal pictures and I started doing numbers. My followers started asking me questions about where I shopped and how they should wear certain things and at that point I knew that people cared about my personal style. I decided to branch off and buy my own domain and things picked up after that.

How do you stay updated with the latest trends?
I follow a lot of bloggers and blog sites and that's how I stay updated but I don't usually follow trends. Even after new trends emerge, I dress however I want and I pick and choose what trends fit my style.

What are your plans for the future? Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I plan on building on The Mixed Mannequin's brand and starting some YouTube vlogs. Within the next 5 years I see myself starting my own brand, obtaining my own office space and starting my own family just to name a few things.

Stay updated with Clarissa
